My previous process (documented in manual) for upgrading is:
I rename my verge3d_blender folder to verge3d_blender_old. Then create a new folder named verge3d_blender and unpack the latest download version into. Then I paste in the applications I want to keep from the older folder.
I’ve been stuck doing 2d stuff for last few months and upon my return I was so excited to see all the new upgrades that I didn’t pay much attention that the new 4.0.1. version I download was exe installer file.
As the installer setup proceeded, I changed the default folder to install in to my verge3d_blender folder (fresh folder, nothing in it).
Install went smooth and when I saw my apps director in verge interface was empty! a quick check on the board explained how in v4+ apps will be stored in a separate directory, that you can choose. (which btw I think is a really good idea!)
So what is the upgrade processing going forward from 4.0.1? (don’t see any update in manual)
I just tried upgrading to 4.1 (to try out that new animation on a curve via follow-path constraint I’ve been dying to have) and something got messed up.
I followed my old way of a renaming my verge3d_blender folder and creating a fresh folder and running the installation into that new folder.
Should I have just run the 4.1 installation to install into (over) the existing verge3d_blender folder?
Something isn’t right since 4.1 upgrade and I probably wouldn’t have noticed if I wasn’t pulling my hair out trying to trouble shoot why I couldn’t get the new animate on curve feature working.
In the UI of Verge3d App manager, clicking the info button Verge3D for Blender shows its “Version: 4.1.0pre1”. However, if I open a console window when running an app it lists:
Verge3D 4.0.1 for Blender (License, WebGL 2.0)If I open a console window after using the sneak peak function in blender, it reads
Verge3D 4.1.0 pre1 for Blender (License, WebGL 2.0)OK – SO I FIGURED IT OUT as I was writing this out.. I neglected to hit the “update app” button at the app level… doh.
Question remains though what is best practice when installing upgrade – do you just point the installer at folder where the previous version is stored? Or does it matter?
I still haven’t figured out how to get the animate on curve (follow path constraint) working.. Could it be an issue that I haven’t upgraded my blender? (currently using Blender 3.0.1)

as of v.4.0, Verge3D is installed in a system folder (Program files on Window). So just let it install where it wants by default. Then create some folder in the user space and copy your old apps there. Point to this folder on first run of the App Manager.
