Hi, I have a full Maya licence – when we purchase a Verge Team licence I’m trying to work out the best way for me and my partner to work together – he currently doesn’t own a Maya licence, so it would be ideal for him to use Blender, or potentially the much cheaper Maya LT licence for us to work together in Verge3D.

Question – is it possible for us to work together? He would mainly be coding & doing puzzles and I will be working on the 3D side of things – would he be able to open my Maya scenes in Blender or Maya LT?

    Thanks!
    Kurt.

    Hi Kurt,

for interoperability between packages we offer the Ultimate option (it is a variation of the Enterprise license). You can still try to load scenes exported from Maya to a Blender-based application, but such a thing is not guaranteed to work. These packages are too different, and in the future we may decide to separate these versions completely to prevent bloating of the engine run-time (especially once other packages such as Cinema 4D are supported).

As of Maya LT, it does not support Python scripting for some reason and as such exporting from it is not even possible.

Thus for best results, your friend is better to have a Maya license. Not sure if they offer multi-user licenses similarly to Verge3D Team or Enterprise.

Thanks for the quick response – unfortunately it’ll be another 2 grand for a full Maya licence, it’s a shame Maya LT doesn’t work!

I’ll have to have a think about our options.

You could possibly create assets in Maya LT and move to the standard Maya, if such a thing is possible at all.
