I can’t figure out why this brushed metal material isn’t showing up in browser. Do I need to UV unwrap my model and apply a texture that way?

Must work fine. Can you share a blend file?

wow, so many faces, i tried to help, but muy computer couldn’t handle your mesh.

The wheel was made in solidworks, sent to keyshot as an stl, and exported as an obj from keyshot. Meshlab doesn’t seem to handle it well, are there other better remeshing options? UVs work fine but the material I made won’t show.

Is uv mapping a requirement to get materials to function correctly?

    #27832

No, you need to remove gLTF 2.0 compatible mode from the material.

And offcource you need to optimize the mesh, we recomend to stop under 300k-500k polygons per scene. This will be very slow in redering. You can try to Use Solidworks + Autodesk Alias Surface or Rhinoceros combination on export to optimize amount of polygons, they have good tesselators with some possibilities to tweak what you will get after it.
