    Hi all,

I’m running into an issue while trying to create an indentation (a simple square cutout) in a part using shape keys in Blender. The faces are triangulated (see the attached screenshot: tri_faces.png), and this is causing some unwanted edges to become visible when the shape key is applied (as shown in the gif).

The goal is to make a clean square indentation, but due to the triangulation, some shading artifacts or visible edges appear.

Is there a known solution or workaround for this? Any help would be greatly appreciated!

    Thanks in advance!

The problem is the faces are flipping as your topology is moved. This is not a shape key issue but a topology issue you will have to create a work around for. It may require the object in question be divided into two or more pieces. It may also help if you retoplogize the model and control the triangles and create a straight edge along the axis of movement in the area of concern. The faces will still flip but you might get away with using a double sided material and avoid the triangle edge.
