    Verge3D Tutorial Part 1

Inspired by Verge3d forum user Omrto’s request…. I have created a 5 part tutorial series on creating a parametric model that is controlled by HTML input forms and a Slider Menu created in Verge3D.

This tutorial walks you through the creation of scaled morph targets, creating the shape keys, setting up the textures, implementing HTML/CSS, creating the Verge3d menu, creating the sliders in Blender and V3D and of course creating all the puzzles.

This is my first attempt at a live demo…with all the good, bad and ugly including me troubleshooting and figuring out my own mistakes so you can learn from those errors too.

Good job Xeon. :good: I think including the mistakes and how you trouble shoot is the gold. It’s the old teach a man to fish vs giving a fish. So much of the learning is trial and error.

PS: have you tried the safari console lately? It’s great.

Honestly…I have not. But I just gave it a shot and it looks great.
I will have to try that on my next project. Thanks for the heads up.

Any chance to get same tutorial using 3dsmax ?

When I started working in 3D many decades ago, I started with 3D studio, switched to Alias|Wavefront, then to Maya, then to Max, then back to Maya and when I started V3D, I realized that I needed to take a different approach. Not because any of these 3D programs are bad, they are all great actually and have unique methods and workflows that make some things easier to do than others. When I discovered V3D, I realized I would have to change the way I worked. I had been a NURBS first modeler for years. But V3D was going to require me to change. I had a choice…stay with Max or Maya or switch to Blender. I made my choice to switch based on the larger number of users using Blender on the V3D forum. I knew I was going to have to learn things from scratch and dig and claw at things so I wanted the best chance of success. Plus I am naturally averse to subscription pricing so I was looking to ditch Autodesk.

Long story short… I hope someone decides to do Max Tutorials….but unfortunately, its not going to be me. I do however reserve the right to change my mind in the future….I have been known to do that.

I totally get that : started on Atari, then Amiga, then MAC, SGI, PC.
    SSG+RTE, Sculpt3D, Sculpt Animate 4D, 3D studio (dos), Alias, Maya, 3dsmax, Moi3D, Max…

Blender could catch me, if Cycles were as good as Corona renderer. Not yet, so.

I’ll figure out how to “convert” your tutorial ;-)

Sounds like we had similar paths. I don’t disagree with your reasoning for cycles. There are alternate renders that do a decent job. Excited about 4.0 agx -haven’t tried it yet.

With most of my time now dedicated to interactive webgl content ( verge or other ) blender, at least for me, became the path of choice, negating the need of cycles. With EEVEE and V3D /threejs outputs colors matching it just eliminated one of my biggest time consumers. Except when doing iOS AR of course.

Perhaps you may consider creating the max tutorial?
