Hi there,
i was browsing trough the gallery and found also the “Merry Christmas” scene, which is quite cool. What imideateley catched my attention was the facetted look which was very obvious on the snow of the roof of the house. In Blender one would only set the display on smooth to avoid that. I Verge3D not supporting it when a object is set to smooth? In other words, is the only way to display smooth surfaces high polygon counts?

To avoid a huge amount of polygons in the scene you can bake a normal map from hipoly model on lowpoly as traditionaly in game modelling. You can see this method in Reclainer demo for example where the normal map was used to get smooth effect of the chair.

yes i understand, but i am not talking about smoothing by adding geometry. If you look at the image I attached, both shapes are identical by their geometry, but the left has the shading set to “flat” and the other is set to “smooth”. If that flat/smooth shading is supported i was asking about.

I am interested in the technique that you described in the recliner example. I would like to know more about baking a normal map from a high poly model onto a low poly model. Will Soft8soft release the recliner scene as an example in the next build of Verge3D? Also, if you happen to know of any tutorials on this procedure I would appreciate if you could share a link.
Thank you,

It’s already released in Verge3D for 3Ds max version of the engine, but we’ll discuss it and maybe we’ll remake recliner for blender version and release it in the next version of the Verge3D for Blender SDK.

There’s a lot of different tutorals on the Youtube and all over internet for example this https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r9QHkN7ke3w
