In my app the user can choose which texture the object has. The texture setup in blender is a image texture node connected to a BSDF node.

I wonder ofcourse you can replace the texture of the image texture node with the replace puzzle.
But setting up each texture on its own, this means more image texture nodes and BSDF nodes. In the app process, will the each-texture-its-own-material option be (much) slower for the app to work with?

In your case there is no any difference. Only visible materials are rendered and only visible materials affect the overall perfomance.

Puzzles and JS coding. Fast and expensive.

If you don’t see the meaning in something it primarily means that you just don’t see it but not the absence of the meaning at all.
